The DoubleTree by Hilton St. Paul East receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its cleanliness, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. However, recurring concerns center around mandatory parking fees, inconsistent room service, and issues with hotel facilities like elevators and air conditioning. Recent reviews highlight problems with cleanliness and a frustrating experience resolving issues during a stay.
The DoubleTree by Hilton St. Paul East is fantastic! Not only does it check all the boxes for the standard requirements such as clean, modern, safe, etc. but the people who work there are exceptional. The attached restaurant, McKnight's Kitchen & Tap, was really good - one of the best breakfasts I've had at a Hilton property. Shabraya was a bright shining ray of sunshine at breakfast and not only made it fun but the whole experience was top notch. Thank you!
[ DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU PLAN ON STAYING LONG ] Forcing people to pay $12 a night for parking in what is essentially a Walmart parking lot, at a hotel in a location that’s right off of the interstate and is surrounded by only houses and apartments should be criminal. I’ve stayed in much nicer hotels in way better cities that are located downtown and surrounded by restaurants and shopping centers and have paid less than that to park in a secured parking lot/garage. The only way I could see charging a mandatory $12 a night to park in a non-secured parking lot at a hotel. (where if you didn’t already know having to park your car is essential) is if you were offered some kind of insurance if your vehicle gets broken into. And it wasn’t mandatory to pay for parking. But no, there are not only giant ugly signs with QR codes on them to pay for parking literally everywhere. But there are multiple signs stating that they aren’t liable if anyone does God forbid break your windows and steal your valuables that you may have left in your vehicle. I was here for work looking at a job that is going to take place for my company soon and had planned on having all of my guys stay here for a 1+ month long project which would have made them thousands of dollars on rooms alone. But after realizing that the owners of this hotel clearly care more about maximizing their profits over the families and traveling workers that stay in them I will be looking for other options.
Horrible hotel, I will not be coming back. I arrived at the hotel at 1am coming from out of state. My blanket was dirty and stained, I asked for a new one and the front desk person said he would get me a new one. When I got to the front desk I was handed a mattress cover. I asked if I could get a blanket and was told they were completely out. The next morning I went and asked for a new blanket and was told that they were not running the laundry the previous night and will take my room number down and bring me a new one when the laundry is completed. I left and didnt arrive until late at night and still no blanket. At that point it was my last night there and I would be waking up in a few short hours to check out so I did not go back and ask for the blanket. The room was dirty, the bathroom was not cleaned properly as there was hair from the previous guests on the counter. The bathroom faucet was so loose I would sometimes have to hold it down with one hand to keep it from wiggling around. The shower was super dirty and had hair on the drain from the previous guests as well. Only one of the lamps by the bed worked. The outlets connected to the wall by the bed were so loose I could not use it as it is a fire hazard and could barely hold my charging block. Parking price isn't advertised, I was charged a total of $12 for one night.
This is by far the worst hotel in the twin cities area. I arrived at 7pm. They said my room was not ready. They put me in a room that obviously needs work. The toilet malfunctions continuously. They did not service the room during my stay. I had to beg for towels and washcloths each day. I got "sorry". Platitudes do not cut it. They make you pay for parking in an open non secure lot too. Do not stay here. Go somewhere else. I would give a No Stars review if I could. I do not do this unless my experience is terrible. Not returning anytime.
We arrived to check in at 7 pm to find many people in the lobby upset because their rooms weren’t cleaned and available yet. This also happened to us. The staff were not helpful in the least and complained to us in the lobby that they are tired and having a rough night. I suggested they should have alerted guests ahead of time and I was told “how do you expect us to alert guest? By calling them? We can’t do that, we have 195 rooms.” That is an example of how poorly they handled the situation. After waiting until close to 9pm, I asked for a refund and was going to find a different hotel. I was then told “oh, well I just marked your room as ready. Do you still want a refund or would you like to check in?” I checked in because I was alone with two kids and didn’t want to try and find a new hotel at that time of night. For the inconvenience, I was offered two complimentary bottles of water. The rooms are extremely loud, the shower was broken, the sofa bed didn’t have pillows or blankets, and the sink had mold in it. I will never stay at this hotel again nor will I be staying at any double tree hotels. Zero star experience.
Check in was slow. Elevator started jerking and making loud noises and got stuck at between 3-4 floor. We got trapped in between floors and when we called front desk lady said maintenance was on the way and hung up in my face. After about 15 minutes we decided to try to pry the door open because no one was coming. We managed to climb out between the floors after my husband hurt his hand pushing the floor down so we could get out. He is going to go to the doctor today because he is injured. The maintenance man showed up and said that they came out earlier to look at elevator and it shouldn’t have been in use. It was terrifying and we were never offered a single thing. We had to walk down 4 flights of stairs with our luggage & was given a downgraded room on the first floor but still had to pay for the 2 bd room suite on the 8th floor. It was a horrible experience and changed our entire trip. I understand it was no one’s fault but Hilton could have gave us that room for free since we had to downgrade or walk up n down 8 flights of stairs all weekend. We barely got a sorry and front desk was rude and almost mad at us for being traumatized. I stay in Hiltons all over and this was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Imagine starting your vacation with 30 minutes trapped in an elevator, hot, not knowing if anyone was coming or who. It was jerking and making noises. After my husband sees the doctor today and gets a hand cray we will probably contact a lawyer.
The room was nice except on the second night they did a very poor job of cleaning the room. The sheets were not changed and we didn't get clean glasses or a new liner for the ice bucket. We tried to use room service but the only printed menus were in the elevators. So you had to ride up and down the elevator to read the menu. I expect more from a Hilton company.
My husband and I have stayed here two years in a row for an anniversary trip to the Twin Cities. The staff here are extremely friendly. Growing up in the Twin Cities, I’m very familiar with “Minnesota Nice”—but these employees are legit so kind. We took advantage of the complementary shuttle to downtown for a concert at the Grand Casino Arena (old Xcel Energy Center—great feature!). Our rooms have always been clean and ready for us when we arrive. Check in & out is always easy! We will always stay here when we visit the TC!
Everyone is so nice!!! The service is fantastic and the hotel is clean. Excellent GM who was very accommodating. He and his team go above above and beyond for the guest. The food was so good as well. I had the breakfast buffet and a few things on their dinner menu. Honestly, this hotel really is top notch. 5-star treatment. Thank you for making my stay so nice!!
My friend had his wedding reception there and they did not have their room ready at 6 o'clock at night, which delayed the reception from starting. They only had one bartender when there was supposed to be two, and now they are claiming that there were extra guests, when in reality people were no shows and there were not unexpected guests. The hotel is just trying to get extra money out of them.
