The Holiday Inn St. Paul Downtown offers a convenient location for exploring the city, particularly for those attending events at the Grand Casino Arena and nearby sporting venues. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and helpful service, especially regarding transportation and local recommendations. However, some reviews highlight issues with room cleanliness, noise levels, and outdated amenities.
Room was sufficient to what we needed/wanted. A little bland, but still decent. I would have liked better water pressure/better shower head for my morning shower. Room could have used a good scrub down to shine, but was decently clean still. Pool area wasn't gigantic, but was still a decent size to accommodate - And was excellent for what we wanted - it was quiet with pool and hot tub. Bar/restaurant was in hotel - the guy we had for bartender our first night was FANTASTIC and witty! Nice theme and vibe each time we went in there. Very friendly and helpful staff. Parking was easy and under locked/gated in area.
I recently stayed at this hotel on business. The manager, Joe, is a fantastic guy. He runs a tight ship but it's clear that his staff respect him and are able to enjoy their jobs. Stacy was also great. Those two in particular went out of their way to take care of me during my stay. Many thanks, Joe and Stacy.
The hotel itself seems could use some updating. Our remote for the tv didn’t work. The telephone didn’t work. When these issues were addressed with front desk staff, they said there was nothing they could do about it. As well were not apologetic nor offered any resolve. They were in fact, quite rude. Our booking site showed free breakfast, which there was not. I understand it was a third party site, but yet it is advertised as such. There was absolutely nothing in the room to show available options in the hotel, where things were located, or any information at all. Disappointed in this Holiday Inn. Would definitely not return or recommend
Convenient is the best word to describe this hotel. Easy to get to. Easy to get into their parking. Check out was very busy with the Wild game going on and I was impressed at how quickly and efficiently the staff checked in guests. The rooms were clean with all the amenities. Loved the Wild Bill's restaurant and bar. Great food, drinks and staff. Loved the location and the ability to walk to the game. Will definitely stay again!
Check in was super quick and easy. Staff was very helpful. Room was clean and ready early so we got to check in two hours early which was nice. We stayed for a Wild hockey game so the location right across the street was perfect. The pool was nice and wasn't overcrowded at all. The vending had plenty of options. The attached restaurant was super convenient to get food without having to leave the property. As for the negatives which dropped the rating: After the game it was impossible to go to sleep until almost 1am due to all the loud most likely drunk adults talking at 500% volume and thumping up and down the hallways and letting their doors slam. Being woken up a few times through the night by sirens was unpleasant too but that isn't the hotels fault that just comes with the territory of being located downtown and near emergency services. Room could have been a little bigger with more than a mini fridge and microwave for the price per room. We thankfully got a very good deal with our rewards otherwise I'm not sure the price is justified for the size of the rooms and everything.
Rooms were fairly clean and room service left a cute little towel animal but these walls are PAPER. THIN. I could hear every single word being said from the people in other rooms and in the hallway. I felt like they were speaking inches away from my face in the dead of night while I was trying to sleep. Annoying. Also elevators were super slow and nobody could find the stairs (they only exit to outside, not the lobby). Employees were nice though.
This hotel was great! The location the the Grand Cassino Arena was literally across the street. The service was incredible. We had car trouble a d they hooked us up with a late checkout so we had someplace to stay until the car was fixed. Can't say enough about how great and helpful the staff was! I would recommend staying here!
During my stay at the Holiday Inn, I had an unpleasant experience with the receptionist, Gabby. When I asked for a receipt for my stay, which is a very standard request, she was rude and dismissive. She appeared more focused on being on her phone and talking to others than addressing my question or assisting me properly. The interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary, especially for such a routine part of the check-out process. Customer service plays a big role in the overall hotel experience, and this interaction fell well below expectations. I hope management addresses this so future guests are treated with more professionalism and respect.
Room was clean but I've seen college dorms bigger than our room. They also charge over $20 to park so that sucks. There were homeless people sleeping outside. The restaurant was good but even with our 2 kids eating for free, the bill for the 4 of us was $100. I'll never come back for the reason that there's no prices on the drink menu. Drives me nuts.
Staff was friendly, room was spotless, pool and hot tub were small but clean, and the location was perfect for attending the Wild game. Tips: when you arrive, keep driving past the front doors and turn right just past the building. There's a small lot there where you park during check-in, and at check-in you'll pay for a pass for the parking ramp (about $23). And if you want to take the stairs to get to your room, you access those from outside the building...a little weird but much better than waiting for the elevator with everyone else after the game!
