Some guests rave about the location, superior service, and luxurious amenities, but others report significant issues with room condition, faulty climate control, and difficult interactions during check-in.
Was an awesome stay. The room was really warm and it took us a bit to figure out how to get it set so it would cool down. Everything else was great.
I recently stayed at the InterContinental Hotels for an extended business trip, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Being away from home for work can be tough, but the staff here made me feel welcomed and taken care of every single day. From valet parking and security to management, everyone treated me with kindness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. It wasn’t just good service — they truly showed how much they cared about making sure my stay was comfortable. I especially want to thank Julia, Scott, Kim, and Kelly. They went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed during my stay. Whether it was checking in to see how things were going or helping with requests quickly and with a smile, they made a lasting impression and truly made my stay great. Because of this team, the hotel felt like a home away from home during my extended stay. I highly recommend staying here, and I look forward to coming back the next time I’m in town.
I stayed at the InterContinental St. Paul in September 2025 and had an extremely disappointing experience that resulted in my stay being unexpectedly terminated. I booked directly with the hotel by phone and clearly disclosed that I would be traveling with my cats. I was assured this would not be an issue. I arrived with the animals present, confirmed this again at check-in, and completed my first night without any concerns from staff. I was also approved to extend my stay for a second night due to a delayed meeting. On the afternoon of day two, while I was out at lunch, I received an abrupt and unprofessional text message from someone identifying themselves as a manager stating that pets were not allowed, accusing me of sneaking animals into the hotel, and claiming housekeeping had entered my room — despite a “Do Not Disturb” sign being displayed. I returned immediately to resolve the situation, but management refused to acknowledge that the animals had been disclosed multiple times and were known to staff. My second night was canceled and I was asked to leave and secure alternate accommodations on short notice. While several front-line employees were kind and professional, the communication breakdown, manner in which this was handled, and the refusal to consider documented conversations created significant disruption and left a very negative impression. I cannot recommend this property based on how this situation was managed.
I always love my stays at the Intercontinental! The service is fantastic. The valets are always quick and courteous, the front desk staff is always friendly and efficient, and the restaurant and bar staff are attentive and amazing! The proximity to the Grand Casino Arena makes this a convenient, pleasant hotel experience every time.
Great location and view of the river from room 408, but don't be fooled by the fancy looking lobby. Front desk employee didn't have friendly vibes. No idea what their deal was. After a long day, I checked in around 930 PM. They sent me to a room on the 9th floor. The heat/thermostat was malfunctioning so heat wasn't working (room was around 55F). God forbid I ask for a different room with working heat. That front desk employee made it feel like a burden that I was requesting a different, functioning room. I swear I could hear their sigh of annoyance when I got off the elevator. Finally had a comfortable room around 1030 PM. No continental breakfast, so head across the river to Backstory Coffee.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable stay, look no further because I promise you’ll never forget this place. I visited on a work trip with four colleagues, and somehow every single one of us won the “What’s wrong with my room?” lottery. Two rooms were set to “tropical beach sauna,” one room was basically the Arctic tundra, and the thermostats were just there for decoration. Another colleague didn’t have warm water, which I guess is fine if you're into ice bucket challenge: hotel edition. And as a bonus feature, we were there during a snowstorm. While other hotels might plow or salt their walkways, this one opted for the “survival of the fittest” approach. We even witnessed a man slip on the ice while multiple valets watched like they were tuning in to a nature documentary. Between the climate experiments, the cold-water spa treatment, and the obstacle course outside, this stay was truly a wild ride. Would I stay again? Not a chance, book the St Paul
Just weird experience after weird experience. When I showed up they told me they only have valet when I asked about parking (which is fine, but just fyi) and then when I tried to call down the next morning to get my car pulled up I was told they don’t do call aheads, you have to go down to desk. Then I get to the desk, they’re struggling to find my keys, and the guy asks if I perhaps called ahead. ?!? No sir, I was told you didn’t do that??? They found the keys eventually. When I got back to my room on my second night, my room was 79F and I knew I had tried to set it to 67. Called down to the desk, they sent someone up and replaced the broken thermostat, but told me “the building can only heat or cool and it’s in heat mode so you won’t be able to cool it to your preferred temp”. Great. So I go down to the bar to give my room some time to cool off, it was approx 7:30, and the bartender asked if I was good with just the drink cause they were about to close. I was like what?? What time do yall close? And he goes “oh, uh, 9, I can wait for you”. So I had a drink and left to go back up to my toasty toasty room, and he immediately closes the gate to the bar/restaurant behind me. I looked on their website… they state they’re open til 10! So don’t rely on that restaurant for your food either I guess. Just a kind of annoying and bizarre visit, wouldn’t stay there again.
We stayed here on a girls weekend to see a concert. We all had luggage + coolers. Staff was great. We opted for valet parking, where several guys showed up to carry luggage as a cart wasn't available. Very prompt on delivery, as well as taking it down in the morning. We didn't eat at the hotel. Very luxurious room, towels, bedding, space. We would stay here again for a concert. We walked the 10 minutes to the Xcel Energy/Grand Casino Arena.
Great stay, location was within easy walking distance og the parking ramp (valet is available), and guest service is superior. I was treated warmly by the curbside staff, and that set the tone for our visit. I can't recommend them highly enough.
Good location for anything downtown, right across the road from the river so nice views on that side. Rooms were average, could use some updates and better cleaning. Dusty and dingy in places. Someone put googly eyes above the thin robe and they were still there, so housekeeping isn't doing a thorough job. Both beds sank in the middle. Coffee and snacks on the lower level (down one from the lobby) were ok, not much to choose from. Price of hotel wasn't awful, but we were overcharged for parking. Hotels app said it was $38 a night, but we were charged $86! So we were ripped off 10 dollars. Contacted the hotel, got no response. Won't stay here again since we were scammed.
