Guest reviews present a stark contrast between overwhelmingly positive hospitality service and failing facilities. While the staff are repeatedly described as exceptional, warm, and accommodating, the property suffers from severe maintenance issues, including broken amenities, black mold, cold/unsafe rooms, and floors in desperate need of renovation. Guests frequently debate whether the outdated condition justifies the price point.
Our room was very clean, beds were comfortable!! The facility in general was wonderful. The main staff for our entire stay was Sandra and she was SO FANTASTIC, Polite, accommodating, and just all around amazing person who made everyone feel so welcome!!! We will definitely go back!!!!!
We stayed for a concert at the Palace Theater which is walking distance from this hotel. Parking is in the garage directly next to the hotel and if you're not paying attention you can easily miss the entrance to the garage, however it is very convenient and the elevator goes right into the hotel. We didn't have any issues with the parking at all like others seem to. The rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet. No hearing others all night long which was great. Staff was friendly from first check in to check out, absolutely no complaints at all. There is a restaurant to eat at in the hotel that has delicious burgers and fish, many choices for a varied appetite. The staff in the restaurant is friendly and helpful as well, we had a delicious dinner while we stayed. I would stay here again, and hope to see the same friendly faces next time. Definitely recommend!
The hotel was good, the rooms were spacious and clean. The only issues were the carpet in the hallways were a disaster, as if there had been flooding and they lifted and the set back down. Also, the ice machine on the 17th floor did not work and the one on the 16th floor did, but I did have small black pieces come out with the ice on my first try. Kesha, at the front desk was extra helpful and friendly. She made sure I had what I needed and helped me navigate where to go for dinner and offered other tips to be sure I enjoyed my time in the area.
Oh my God, everything about this place was amazing.the employees make such a great environment. That was very informed very knowledgeable they was 2 of the sweetest ladies. I have met in a long time in Minnesota. Very helpful, very under. My room was clean to perfection when I say I walked in and I was greet with the scent of dis infecting. I was very happy. My sheets was clean. Smelled very fresh , not just like hotel fresh , but actually like somebody's tough at the time to wash them for every softener , fresh
We stayed at the DoubleTree Downtown St. Paul while in town for a concert. The location was nice - walking distance to the venue we were going to, but the surrounding area felt pretty sketchy. There were a lot of people on the streets, and when we stopped at a nearby store to grab some water, people were stealing items right in front of security, who tried to stop them but couldn’t. Honestly, it was sad to see. We arrived at the hotel about an hour before check-in, but our room wasn’t ready, so we had to wait, which is fine we were early. What made that frustrating was that the next morning, housekeeping came by multiple times starting almost two hours before check-out asking if we were leaving soon. It felt a bit ironic after having to wait the day before. I asked to use the restroom when we first arrived and was told they didn’t have one for 'public' use, but after explaining I needed to change my pants, they somehow pointed me to a restroom I could access? The staff overall was polite and helpful, so no complaints there. The main areas of the hotel were okay, but the rooms themselves are in dire need of updating. They looked and felt old, dingy, and not very clean. Unfortunately, because of that, I wouldn’t stay here again. The location and staff were fine, but the rooms just missed the mark.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but go somewhere else. Okay? Run, don’t walk. Look, I’ve stayed at some rough properties over the years, but this one takes the cake. Not because it’s the worst of the worst, but because of what it gives for how much it charges. This property lacks self-awareness, or maybe just doesn’t care. There’s a feeling of apathy throughout the stay, and it makes sense when you only staff a single front desk person on a busy Friday night. (For the record, that person was wonderful given the circumstances.) But let’s talk about the room, and why you should take your money elsewhere. We rolled in late Thursday, tired. Paid $22 to park in a cramped, poorly maintained garage with even worse elevators, and finally made it to the lobby. The person working that night didn’t actually validate our ticket despite saying they had. We learned that the next day. But fine, because we had to revisit the desk anyway when our keys stopped working. The first room was filthy, poorly maintained, and stuffy. The light shade had who knows what splattered across it. The bed had mystery stains. The mirror was broken, the shower curtain stained, the walls dinged up, and anything metal in the bathroom was rusted. The carpet was grimy, the fridge half-slid out of its cabinet exposing years of buildup. The room looked like a time capsule from 2005. So I texted the front desk. Eventually we were moved and given breakfast vouchers, which cost $20 per person by the way, and also, “buffet” is a generous term. The second room was a carbon copy, just marginally cleaner, which says more about the first room than this one. The mirror was still broken, the sconces still rusted, and the curtains still stained. But hey, at least the lamp shade wasn’t covered in mystery stains and the bedding looked…better. The bar on the second floor advertised itself as open until 10 p.m. We arrived at 8:45. Empty. Waited 10 minutes. No one. As we were leaving, someone ran up, but it was too late. Again, maybe they were pulled elsewhere, but that just proves the larger issue: it’s wildly understaffed for the price point. We stayed from Thursday through Sunday, hoping things might improve, but the issues were consistent throughout our stay. A few last notes: • The hallway carpet is lifting dramatically in spots, so watch your step. • If you’re hoping for the “welcome cookie,” don’t. We weren’t offered one. • Need good internet? Either find a coffee shop or pay extra. • Booked a queen bed? Expect something between a full and a twin. • And if you want late checkout, don’t bother asking the front desk. You’ll need to wait until 8 a.m., track down a member of housekeeping, and ask them about fees. That’s literally what we were told.
I will never stay in this hotel again. Worst experience ever on my son's wedding day to top it off. They were actually going to make us move from our current room to a different room after our son's wedding. We were exhausted but they said they had no choice. Had it not been for the security guard lady who said absolutely not they're not moving, we would have had to pack up at 2:00 in the morning to move our room. It was absolutely ridiculous.
I had a great experience at this hotel. I stayed here during a business trip. Keisha, the front desk attendant/manager was amazing! She made our stay seamless. Those cookies are also delicious!
I had an excellent stay! From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Sandra and KiKi especially stood out—they were warm, attentive, and truly cared about ensuring my comfort and safety throughout my stay. Their professionalism and kindness turned what could have been just a nice visit into something exceptional. It’s rare to come across staff who treat guests like family, but that’s exactly what they did. Because of them, I felt completely at ease and well taken care of. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for both comfort and outstanding service, and I’ll definitely be returning.
Double tree by Hilton was mediocre. I was here for a work conference. The front desk staff was friendly enough. The hotel bar closes really early 9pm I think. Maybe 10. The rooms are outdated. My bathroom had issues with the handle in the shower and just general rundown and tub had mildew stains. Wouldn’t stay here again unless forced to for a work function.
